Nov 28, 2017  DMG or dimethylglycine is an amino acid that helps to promote healthy aging at a cellular level by supporting oxygenation and methylation in the body. Skip to content Shopping Cart (0 items). Numerous Health Benefits from Taking DMG. The health benefits from supplementing with DMG are significant. Dimethylglycine greatly improves the nutritional environment of the cell, increases immune system function (between up to 300% and 1000%) and improves oxygen utilization which enhances energy levels in the body. Oct 11, 2018  DMG can also make a positive contribution in many areas of cellular metabolism including neurotransmitter production, oxidative stress reduction and energy production in the brain. Perhaps future research in this very important field will shed more light on why DMG can benefit the lives of many children with autism. DMG reduces physical and environmental stress, improves oxygen utilization, enhances liver function, and can optimize athletic performance. Besides all of these benefits, DMG is used as an anti-inflammatory and for anti-aging effects. DMG can improve the immune response and has been used to treat tumors. 7 HEALTH BENEFITS OF DMG 1. Enhancing Metabolic Function. Supporting the Body under Stress. Finding Balance. Enhancing Energy Levels. Managing Cardiovascular and Heart Health. Boosting Brain Function. Bolstering Immune Function.

Trimethylglycine TMG (also known as betaine), and dimethylglycine DMG, are methyl donors that help in the production of several brain chemicals and hence improve mood, energy, wellbeing, alertness, concentration, and visual clarity. Choline has four methyl groups and is chemically related to these supplements.

Unless your major is college was chemistry, chances are you don’t remember learning about methyl donors. But if you find the field of mind boosting interesting, you will certainly want to learn more about these supplements. A methyl donor is simply any substance that can transfer a methyl group [a carbon atom attached to three hydrogen atoms (CH3)] to another substance. Many important biochemical processes rely on methylation, including the metabolism of lipids and DNA. Scientists suspect that adequate methylation of DNA can prevent the expression of harmful genes, such as cancer genes. It’s quite likely that our body’s ability to methylate declines with age, potentially contributing to the aging process, and therefore supplementation is an interesting idea in terms of health benefits.

Research of benefit
Trimethylglycine lowers homocysteine levels.
Has been found to protect liver cells from toxins.
Trimethylglycine is a safe and well tolerated nutrient that leads to a significant biochemical and histological improvement in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Sexual enhancement, erectile dysfunction, libido, impotence
May lead to sexual enhancement and enjoyment. Tribulus terrestris is a good herb for this purpose.

Q. Does trimethylglycine help with erectile dysfunction?
A. Not immediately or within a day or two as other supplements can. Perhaps low dosages over time could help overall sexuality.

MentalEnhancement
It is a mood lifter and enhances mental function, but a better alternative is Mind Power Rx mental enhancement.

Availability
Trimethylglycine is sold in dosages ranging from 100 to 500 mg. Beets, broccoli, and shellfish are food sources. In fact, the source of most of the trimethylglycine sold over the counter is often from the sugar beet.

Dosage
One capsule a day of 100 to 200 mg is usually sufficient for most people to provide enhanced energy.

Side effects of trimethylglycine, is it safe?
When taken in high dosages, such as more than 500 mg, can cause nausea, restlessness and insomnia and perhaps muscle tension headache.

The Chemistry of DMG and Trimethylglycine, metabolism
DMG (dimethylglycine) is basically the amino acid glycine attached to two methyl groups while TMG has three methyl groups. Commonly these methyl groups are added to homocysteine, converting it into the amino acid methionine which is then converted to SAMe. SAMe is a nutrient available over the counter, which has been used as a powerful antidepressant. DMG plays a crucial role in the respiratory cycle of the cells, transporting oxygen and serving as a potent methyl donor. DMG acts as a building block for the synthesis of many important substances such as choline, SAM-e, the amino acid methionine, several hormones, neurotransmitters, and DNA. The formation of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine requires a methyl group donated by SAMe. Dopamine enhances sex drive. TMG (trimethylglycine), also known as betaine, is basically the amino acid glycine attached to three methyl groups. Simply, Trimethylglycine has one more methyl group than DMG.

Recommendations and review
Trimethylglycine and DMG are underutilized nutrients that hold a great deal of promise but unfortunately, few doctors are familiar with these nutrients. At this time the clinical uses of Trimethylglycine and DMG are not well defined and whether they would be helpful in the therapy of Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease is not known. Since the body’s ability to methylate declines with age, supplements of Trimethylglycine or DMG in small amounts, such as 50 to 100 mg a day, may benefit middle aged and older individuals. I recommend not exceeding 250 mg of Trimethylglycine or DMG on a daily basis until more is known about these supplements. Your dose should be reduced if you are taking B vitamins, SAMe, the nutrient DMAE, or choline since all of these nutrients have overlapping functions.

Blood thinning, clot
Q. Does trimethylglycine thin the blood?
A. We are not aware of it having an influence on blood coagulation but we have not yet seen research in this area. Trimethylglycine is a potent substance and care should be taken to limit dosage to no more than 100 to 200 mg a day.

Homocysteine reduction
Q. I was reading your article on TMG. My husband (81) has a homocysteine of 14-16. He has chronic kidney insufficiency. He also takes 2000 mcg of B-12 (for B-12 deficiency) and one B-100 a day, also 1000 mcg of folic acid (multivitamin + B-100). In his condition, is it safe for him to try Trimethylglycine TMG? His doctor doesn’t know anything about Trimethylglycine TMG and said his elevated homocysteine is from the kidney disease.
A. Trimethylglycine is a very potent nutrient that can cause overstimulation, increased heart beat and insomnia. Those who are on high dosages of other vitamins should be cautious in using Trimethylglycine due to overstimulation, and if deciding to use it, should only take a small portion of a pill. We suggest your doctor read more about Trimethylglycine to make the recommendation since we only provide general information and we don’t advise whether to take or not take a supplement.

Interactions with medications, drugs
Q. I take 150 mg Bupropion a day and have bought trimethylglycine and L-theanine. Is it safe to take these together? Is trimethylglycine a dopamine reuptake inhibitor?
A. The combination of pharmaceutical drugs and supplements has hardly been studied and there could be unexpected reactions when drugs and supplements are combined. As a general rule, it is a good idea to learn how each supplement works by itself before combining. Trimethylglycine is a potent nutrient and even a third of a tablet of the 750 mg can be potent for some people. Trimethylglycine is not a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.

Fatty liver, hepatic health
Q. I am not obese but have fatty liver i bought trimethylglycine in powder form, i took a small dosage, got a bit of a headache and dry mouth, wondering there have been articles that trimethylglycine helps people with fatty live.
A. We are not aware of studies in humans regarding the role of trimethylglycine and liver health. A side effect of high dose trimethyglycine is headache, and it is a good idea to use a lower amount.

Trimethylglycine

Today I want to tell you about trimethylglycine or TMG and why I have started using TMG in my nutritional balancing programs.

TMG is an amino acid and works chemically as a methyl donor. It helps the methyl groups assist in the detoxification of heavy metals and toxic chemicals through the liver. Since most of us have livers that are overtaxed and clogged, TMG is useful in cleaning up the liver, which is the primary reason it is used in this program. I will address this issue later in this article.

TMG consists of three methyl groups that are joined to one molecule of the amino acid glycine. When TMG is eaten in food or taken as a supplement, it releases one of the two methyl groups and leaves a substance called dimethylglycine or DMG along with glycine. Let’s talk about the benefits DMG and glycine.

Dimethylglycine (DMG) – DMG is used to improve speech and behavior in autism. It also is used for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHA) and can improve neurological function and control epilepsy.

It enhances anti-viral and anti-bacterial functions. It is also used for respiratory disorders and allergies as well as chronic fatigue. DMG is helpful in treating alcoholism and drug addictions and can lower blood cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as normalize blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

While DMG can be taken as a supplement, it is too yin and therefore not recommended on my nutritional balancing program. However, when you take TMG it breaks down into DMG and you receive all the benefits without the yin effects.

Glycine – Glycine is very important for the formation of collagen. Collagen is used to repair connective tissue such as tendons, ligaments, cartilage, arteries, veins, and other similar structures. The glycine portion of TMG assists with collagen function and may help with sleep and alertness.

Let’s look at several functions of TMG:

  1. Lowering homeocysteine. Homeocysteine is an amino acid but when it exists in excess it contributes to heart disease and artery disease. Homeocysteine levels are more important to monitor when looking at heart disease than cholesterol. High homeocysteine occur when there is not enough TMG or folic acid available in the body. Since mercury and copper toxicity are seen in almost all clients, TMG donates to the methyl groups that aids in the removing of these harmful metals and therefore lowers homeocysteine levels.
  2. Liver Detoxification. Methyl groups are essential for phase 2 liver detoxification pathways. During this phase of detoxification, the fat soluble and/or insoluble toxins that are difficult for the liver to metabolize and eliminate are joined to a methyl group. This makes the toxin more soluble in water and allows the body to prepare the toxin for elimination. It also neutralizes some of the toxic properties of the toxin, making retracing and healing reactions less intense.
  3. Alleviating depression. TMG increases the body’s natural production of S-adenosyl methionine (SAMe), which is a chemical that can help reduce depression.
  4. Reducing the chance of diabetes. Methyl groups assist in the insulin release and help regulate insulin activity. When the body lack methyl groups, diabetes is far more likely to occur.

HOW TO USE TMG IN CONJUNCTION WITH A HAIR MINERAL ANALYSIS PROGRAM

Android photo transfer to mac. I use TMG in conjunction with my hair analysis and nutritional balancing program. Dr. Wilson is still doing research on this subject but he has passed down the following criteria for using TMG within our programs:

  1. Poor eliminator patterns on an initial hair analysis test.
  2. High levels of toxic metals – especially when mercury levels are elevated. Mercury may interfere with methylation even more than other toxic metals.
  3. Four lows pattern on an initial hair analysis test or “stuck in four lows” – this occurs when a lows pattern persists for several tests.
  4. Zinc level above 20% on an initial hair analysis.
  5. Very slow oxidation rate.
  6. Anyone having difficulty on a nutritional balancing program while following the diet and supplement program faithfully. Since TMG assist with the removal of metals AND can neutralize some of the toxic properties of toxins, retracing and healing reactions are often less intense. This is great news for many of my clients who have experienced difficult times while detoxing.
  7. Alleviating depression. Since TMG increases the production of SAMe it can in many cases alleviate depression.

DOSES AND CAUTIONS WITH TMG

Most people have no side effects from TMG. Currently, with Dr. Wilson’s advice, I have asked all my clients to begin TMG at 500 MG a day – taken each morning. Take only 500 MG and only “pure” TMG that is not mixed with other herbs or minerals. Jarrow and Life extension make TMG in 500 MG tablets. You can purchase it on line at www.vitacost.com or at your local health food store.

Most people feel better after starting TMG and report better sleep. Even when they aren’t sleeping more, they appear to feel more “rested”. They may also experience a little more energy.

A very few people report feeling fatigue and nauseous when beginning TMG and if so, this usually passes within a few days. This reaction is likely due to the release of some toxic metals. TMG can help release trauma and some people may experience retracing symptoms such as anxiety, fear, depression, anger, and others but these usually pass, and in most cases TMG will reduce retracing symptoms.

Too much TMG can cause diarrhea and nausea and may adversely affect cholesterol levels but this should not occur with the small doses recommended on the nutritional balancing program. Never take more unless I direct you to do so and I will only adjust your TMG dosage after consulting with Dr. Wilson.

Children also need less so contact me if you are working with a child on the program and he has not been given a recommended amount of TMG to take.

Dmg Uses

As clients stabilize and the oxidation rate becomes more balanced, less TMG should be needed. TMG is found in broccoli, beets and other vegetables. However, most of us do not get enough TMG from food alone. At this time most clients will need TMG for at least a year and repeated hair mineral tests will allow me to determine, along with Dr. Wilson’s assistance, when TMG is no longer needed.

All my current clients should take 500 mg of TMG each morning. Upon further testing the amount may be adjusted. I am working with Dr. Lawrence directly on all my client’s cases and he reviews and approves all my programs before they leave my office. Please consider a hair mineral analysis today. It’s a simple and accurate test that allows me to give you a customized plan for achieving optimal health based. Visit my site to learn more about hair mineral analysis!
